crafty dad

maybe that's where my crafty habits come from... dad's crafty too! i 'caught' him doing this last night, found it amusing so took a picture of his little craft project.

just a little background - he's got a new place and he's excited about designing it, so we went to ikea yesterday to shortlist the furnitures that he likes and took some measurements of it. Later that night, he drew a 'blueprint' of his new place (drawn to scale) first, then lovingly drew (to scale again) the different pieces of shortlisted furnitures, lastly, he place them on the layout as movable pieces to determine the position to place.

yeah, he could have done all these on some computer software, but he uses the old school method and he enjoys it - spent a few hours on it. now, all he has to do is just execute his plan!

worst lunch for 2007

its horrible bland food at high prices. no way i will go back again. if its bland but cheap, its ok, if its expensive but darn yummy, its ok. but if its bland and expensive, its a no no.

went for lunch with tea - wanted to have it at Lei Garden at Chjimes but as the waiting time was too long, we ventured into Raffles City. It was crowded everywhere, so we settled for this place as there's no queue (there's long snaking queues everywhere else). Anyway, this place's in the middle of basement 1, not the crepe place, but the one that's in the middle of the extension place- opposite Ding Tai Feng.

we ordered the prawn poppers (which were over-fried), the mushroom bruchettas (which was cold and soggy), the alio olio penne (this is the Worst! its just a handful of penne stired with 5 small measly stalks of cauliflower!), the signature pasta (of which, the cream sauce tastes like it came straight out of a bottle). the only redeeming dish was the baked apple pie with a dollop of vanila ice-cream (you could see specks of vanila beans) and the bill came up to $75 - for lousy food. No no for me again.

i've got toys!

been thinking of getting these clay stuffs for long time already but didnt as there's too much crafts i wanna do- sewing, papercraft etc.. so much things to do , so little time. these few nights, been sleeping at 2-3 am cuz been busying crafting away.

anyway, saw these going cheaply so couldnt resist but buy all the avaliable designs. but was pretty dissappointed when i went back to try playing with it... the end results aint as pretty as the pictures on the box makes out to be :(

have been thinking of getting these for the longest time - its like a pick and win toys. there are various designs and you get a random design if you buy just one box. i do not want to be dissappointed if i pick something i do not like, so just to be on the safe side, i have bought the entire set!!! yay!! my own xmas present to myself! :D

made this on xmas day- just for fun. its supposed to be used as a keychain holder, but its too small to fit my house key :(

tofu man!

i have been typing a huge paragraph on how much i love these and then the computer hanged!!! now, i have lost interest in retyping it. :(

anyway, love TOfu Man lots lots lots. makes me happy to see, squeeze and chant 'tofu man tofu man tofu man'. these are not those normal furry tofu plushies you see in many of the shops. these are made out of stretchy material with bean bag fillings - very very squeezable.

can anyone tell me where to buy these or would anyone buy these for me as a gift purleaseeeee ? *sweet demure smile*

mini luggages

been drooling over these whenever i see them on other blogs for the past few months already. i have not seen these in Singapore until last week! it aint cheap so had brother to buy the orange one for me as an xmas present. went home and kept thinking of how lonely ms. orange luggage will be without mr. red luggage. so went back the following day and tyre got me mr luggage. now, they are happy together! :D
now, if only i can find more colors to keep them company...

new camera!

i've got a new camera... finally. pretty fustrated with using the 3-yr old casio exlim camera already - the color's not too good, its slow, its full of scratches...
tyre got me a new Lumix. Lynn has one and it takes pretty pictures. i had been thinking of getting it for ages but couldnt bear to part with the money. now i got it! yay! i am going to take more pictures from now - pictures of crafts, pictures of my rubbishy purchasese, pictures of my silly frens and the list goes on...

Surprise parcel from HK!!!!!

look at what came in my mail yesterday for me and my brother - a big box of goodies from my cousin, Eva, in HK!!! there's pretzels for my brother - she remembered that my bro loves to eat them (we brought back alot of packets during our last trip there) and craft fabrics for me! lots of pretty craft fabrics and the fabric stencil kit. cant wait to try it, but yet, cant bear to use it.. wat a dilemma! thinking of what to do with the fabrics already.. :D so much things to do, so little time to do.

i had been hard at work over the weekend doing these up for etsy. i love the shape, feel of this range of pouches so wanted to rush it out for etsy. hope someone appreciates and buys it too :D think its value for money - for so much handiwork and time involved, i aint selling it expensive (as compared to some other handicrafts works i have seen) . i just get a sense of satisfaction from selling and knowing that someone out there likes what i make! go http://www.onebowl.etsy.com/ to see the end products and many other stuffs :D

what i want for christmas

yeah... this is to all my friends out there who are reading my blog and thinking of getting me xmas gifts (yeah.. i am pretty thick skinned. i assumed that they will get me pressies). i figured its better to blatantly hint to you what i would like to receive:
- for the budget conscious, i would love to have wooden cutie colorful items. this can range from boxes to stationeries etc
- a pair of big diamond earrings.
- a Bernia sewing machine. it costs about S$1,500 and i cannot bear to buy it
- kawaii items like stickers, notepads, stamp pads
- san-x and sanrio items
keeping my fingers crossed! :D

i love felt crafts

finally, i tried my hands at felt craft! made some cuties magnet. they are sooooo cute, bright and cheery looking. i am goin to 'mass produce' them.. try to :P

ooo..this is so exciting to see sonnja make such beautiful bears from the fabrics i sent her some time back. sonnja's from netherlands and she makes these pretty bears for children in africa. you can read/see more of her stuffs at www.sonnja.web-log.nl. she has made 899 bears till date and still going strong!

comfort pack for the happy traveller

did this for the above mentioned swap. the swap partner's not assigned yet, but will mail this out to her as soon as i know who she is. hope she likes it. i came up with this idea because of the bad experience that kay had....

Kay had a really bad experience in the berjaya tioman resort few years back - the pillow which they had provided in the room really smelled terrible. it had a very very strong 'oily & smelly head' smell. ewwww.. ever since that incident, i have become weary of using pillows at hotels or resorts. would usually cover them with a towel. and also, because i sleep with the lights on, i needed an eye mask to shield the eyes from the light.

so i thought of this - why not bring an inflatable pillow and eye mask along - and so , i made this 'comfort pack' - an inflatable pillow with pillow case, an eye mask, all in a handy pouch. the inflatable pillow can double up as a float for use in the pool or at the beach.

mat for my doggies

my doggies dont like to sleep on the cold hard floor. usually, they will jump up to my bed or sleep on the clothes strewn all over the floor. so i thought - since i have so much fabric scraps, why not piece them together and make mats for them :D and see below for the end results :D a satisfying project over the weekend.

charity bazaar

my colleagues participated in a charity bazaar over the weekend. the picture shows the stuffs they sold and made a tidy sum of $1,500 to be donated to the old folks home. the candles were handmade, the honey's organic, the x'mas hanging decorations handmade too.

it was ray's birthday last saturday. tea suggested and brought us for dinner at this japanese place at 2nd floor of meriden hotel. its very very very yummy! had beef tongue, kobe beef, beef, beef and beef and finish it off with cold beer. the bill's very very very attractively high too :(
